Frequently asked questions.

Do you sell your houses?

No, not at this time. This is just a hobby.

Do you take commissions or do custom work?

No, I do not take commissions or do any custom work at this time.

Do you sell furniture or other miniature items?

No, again it’s just a hobby, but you never know what the future holds.

Do you make or buy the furniture in your houses.

Both. In the beginning I bought many of my pieces, but now I’m making more myself. I like to make things I enjoy making such as, I love working with fabric so therefore I make most of my bedding, curtains, pillows and such. I also like to upholster furniture like sofas and chairs, as well as build a few things from wood like my much loved dining room table in my Hillside Manor house. I also like to find vintage or unfinished pieces and refinish them. However, there are many minis that I just prefer to buy like food, because I don’t think I will ever have the patience to make anything that small and detailed.

What stain do you use?

This is a tricky question because I don’t use just one stain colour. Stain colour changes depending on the type of wood you are putting it on, to how you apply it. I have a number of stains that I will mix from in order to find that perfect colour.

Do you prefer to build from a kit or renovate an older dollhouse?

So far I have only renovated one older dollhouse, my Hillside Manor house, and although I enjoyed the process, my preference is to build from scratch.

How long have you been building mini homes?

In January of 2020 I was at my local hardware store for something unrelated and there was an assembled unfinished dollhouse leftover from Christmas on sale. I bought it on a whim, started my IG account the very next day to document my journey, and I’ve been hooked on minis ever since.

What scale are your homes?

All my houses are 1:12 scale.

How can someone get started in this hobby?

Google, YouTube and Pinterest are all full of amazing resources and tutorials. My recommendation would be to just start researching the web for great information, build what you enjoy and just be patient. This is such a fun hobby and like anything new it takes time to find your way, but that is all part of the journey. Have fun with the process no matter what stage you are at!

What kind of paint do you use?

I mostly use either Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams paint on my houses, as well as on any furniture.

What type of glue do you use?

I use Aleene’s Original Tacky glue.

How do you make your flooring and/or Wallpaper?

I create or find an image online that I will scale in Photoshop, repeat the image to fill a complete page and print on cardstock. To give hardwood flooring that added realism I will print the image on a woodgrain textured cardstock and score the board lines.
